Where to mail a credit report dispute

Addresses last verified 7 October 2026

All three bureaus accept disputes by mail for free. These are their consumer-dispute addresses. If the address on your own credit report differs from the one below, use yours.

The rule that overrides every address on this page: the address printed on your own credit report always wins. That is the address the bureau has on file for you. Bureaus do occasionally move their mail boxes, so check your report first.

How to mail it so the 30-day clock actually starts: use certified mail with return receipt requested. The 30-day investigation period runs from the day the bureau receives your letter, not from your postmark. Keep the green card.

Dispute with the company that reported the item

You can also dispute directly with the creditor or collection agency that supplied the information, at the address they printed on your credit report. Many consumers skip this step; it is often the fastest route, and it is your right under 15 U.S.C. §1681s-2(a)(8).
