The TransUnion dispute address
To dispute information on your TransUnion credit report by mail, address the letter to TransUnion Consumer Solutions, P.O. Box 2000, Chester, PA 19016-2000. That is the address TransUnion itself publishes, and a mailed dispute costs you nothing. Below: the online route, what to put in the envelope, the 30-day clock, and an honest note about how we last verified this address.
Last verified 15 October 2026 — from archived captures, not a live page
Sources below are archived captures of TransUnion’s own dispute page, statute text at law.cornell.edu, and the three primary pages behind our master address list. Checked 15 October 2026.
Read this before you mail — how we verified it
We are going to be straight with you about something most pages in this search hide. We could not open transunion.com live while checking this page. The site returned a 403 to our automated request on 15 October 2026. What we print here is what TransUnion’s own dispute page showed in archived captures taken on 13 January 2026 and 19 February 2026, which agree with each other.
So it is not a guess and not scraped from a blog — it is TransUnion’s own words, captured twice. But it is nine months old, and we will not pretend otherwise. Confirm the address on transunion.com yourself before you mail.
Start online, not in the postbox
TransUnion offers an online dispute, and describes the mail option as the alternative for anyone who would prefer to write in. Online is faster, confirms on screen, and starts the statutory clock without waiting for transit. Use transunion.com credit disputes, or call 1-800-916-8800, before you buy a stamp.
The address, printed for you to copy
Why 19016-2000 and not the others. The same P.O. Box is printed three ways across the industry: TransUnion’s own page says 19016-2000, Equifax’s page restates it as 19016, and Experian’s page restates it as 19022-2000. Equifax and Experian are competitors restating a rival’s address, so TransUnion’s own page governs and 19016-2000 is what we print. The address page lays out all three variants and what to do if a letter comes back.
All three dispute addresses side by side
You almost always need to dispute with each bureau separately, and the same item does not appear in all three files. Here are the three verified mail addresses next to the free online route for each, so you can send all three in one sitting.
| Bureau | Dispute free online | Mail dispute address |
|---|---|---|
| Equifax | equifax.com/personal/disputes | P.O. Box 740256, Atlanta, GA 30374-0256 |
| Experian | experian.com/help/dispute-credit | P.O. Box 4500, Allen, TX 75013 |
| TransUnion | transunion.com credit disputes | P.O. Box 2000, Chester, PA 19016-2000 |
The 30-day clock, and what it actually obliges TransUnion to do
Once TransUnion receives your dispute it must investigate and report the results within 30 days, free of charge — 15 U.S.C. §1681i(a)(1)(A). It may take up to 15 days longer, but only if it tells you and explains why: 15 U.S.C. §1681i(a)(1)(B). That is the whole of the extension, and it does not reset each time you write in again.
The proof sits with the bureau, not with you. Under 15 U.S.C. §1681i(a)(5)(B)(i), anything TransUnion deletes may not return unless the company that furnished it certifies it is complete and accurate. If an investigation ends and the item is still there, you can write a statement of dispute of 100 words or fewer, 15 U.S.C. §1681i(b), and under §1681i(c) it is reported to future furnishers.
What to put in the envelope
- One letter, naming one item. Give the creditor name, the account number if you have it, and the exact line you are disputing.
- A copy of the report page showing the item, so the reader can see the entry without pulling your whole file.
- A copy of a government photo ID, signature line redacted.
- Your return address, and the one disputed line marked rather than the whole page highlighted.
- Certified mail, return receipt requested. The 30 days run from the day the letter arrives, not your postmark. The green card is your only proof of that date.
If the entry came from a collection agency, a second 30-day duty runs in parallel. How to dispute with a debt collector covers that route, and the debt validation letter makes them prove the debt is yours.
Questions people actually ask
Which ZIP code should I use for TransUnion?
Use 19016-2000. That is what TransUnion’s own page prints. The five-digit 19016 and the 19022-2000 variant appear on Equifax’s and Experian’s pages, which are competitors restating a rival’s address — when a company restates another company’s address, its own page governs. Confirm on transunion.com before you mail.
How long does TransUnion have to investigate?
Thirty days from receipt, free of charge, under 15 U.S.C. §1681i(a)(1)(A), plus up to 15 more if TransUnion notifies you and explains why under §1681i(a)(1)(B).
Can I dispute online instead of mailing?
Yes. TransUnion offers an online dispute and presents mail as the alternative if you would prefer to write in. Online is usually faster; use the P.O. Box when your dispute needs an original document attached.
Where this goes next
You have the address; now the words. The dispute letter templates are written as one letter per bureau per problem type. For a specific balance rather than an error, the debt validation letter is stronger — it puts the burden on the company claiming you owe the money. If all three bureaus came back without a fix, where to file next has the state agencies and regulators that are not the bureaus.
Write your TransUnion dispute letter
You fill in the blanks and mail it yourself. We do not send anything for you and we cannot remove anything from your report — this is your FCRA right, exercised by you, with software you keep.
